Love, Light and the Dragon Pose: Sharing from a Yin Yoga Teacher

Today, I had the privilege of having a one on one Yin Yoga session with Roxanne, a Yin and a Hot Yoga teacher from Yoga Plus here in DLSU and such experience made me reaffirm that the Universe, it may not always give us what we want, but it always gives us what we NEED.

Roxanne PiadTrue enough, she asked, "Anong gusto mong sequence, pampatulog or pampagising?" ( What type of session would you prefer, something that will wake you up or make you fall asleep? )

"Something to wake me up", I laughed, and replied.

And the rest of the Yin Yoga practice is history...

Up until she asked me to do a Dragon pose.

I  may not be a trained Yoga teacher, and I'm speaking based from the things that our instructors tell us and of course, from experience as well..and in Yin Yoga, you don't force yourself to a certain extent to do a pose. You become the pose itself in such a way that you let gravity do the work for you, not resisting anything..

Feeling your body..feeling how every part of you in every movement that you make..

Yin Yoga is a form of deep relaxation, a refuge for me to calm my mind in such a fast paced world. Like what Jayme said, Yin Yoga targets deeply beyond the tissues and delves deeper into one's emotions..as we perform poses that targets mostly neglected parts of the bodies, we are somehow "forced" to face unresolved and hidden issues with ourselves as well.

Well, that's how I see it right now. :)

Going back to the Dragon pose..

Try this and you'll feel that burning sensation on your inner thighs, sides of your legs..even with your shoulders..

Then suddenly she mentioned that it's this pose that greatly helped her with her digestion issues. And that's where things became quite interesting and interactive for both of us. She said that because this specific pose targets the stomach meridian, it stimulates digestion and massages the internal organs as well.

I mean, how many of us would openly tackle about the discomfort that we feel in our tummies, right?

And there she is, openly sharing what helped her and how she's become so much more aware with what she eats, following mostly a Yin Yoga lifestyle. I, myself have experienced digestion issues, bloating, discomfort, excessive gas and all that which I believe was a result of the unhealthy lifestyle that I had before - a lifestyle that was not in tune with Nature..

Which is why I love Pocahontas so much! Before, I'd use to have Cinderella as my favorite Disney Princess character..but as I tune in more to my body, and how everything in this Universe is connected to each other - from the air we breathe, to the waters in the ocean, to the trees, the flowers, the sand..no wonder people love soaking under the sun in the beach.. :)

Nature, gets you more connected with your true Self.

Going back, let me share with you tips that I got from Roxanne, as well as personal practices that might work for you as well. :)

1. Know your body. Know yourself.

2. Always eat warm food especially in the morning and at noon when the sun is at its peak. Roxanne and I share a favorite breakfast staple: OATMEAL!

Here's a link to my previous post on an oatmeal recipe you'll surely love:

3. Eat your veggies and protein and good carbohydrates (complex carbs like brown/black/red  rice, sweet potato, etc ) during lunch time! :)

Roxanne eats her quinoa, fish and veggies for lunch on a regular basis but she said that on some days she would eat pasta and pizza. See? It's all about finding that balance and see what works for you best!

A personal recommendation for lunch: Warm Soup and a Protein Packed Salad ( arugula, sauteed mushrooms, couscous, an olive oil based lemon dressing, walnuts and mangoes )

OR

Sauteed Kangkong in Garlic and Olive Oil, Tuna Turmeric Stir Fry and a Side of Brown Rice or Quinoa

I personally eat these stuff for lunch and it works. ;) Go and experiment and see what does FOR YOU. <3

4. Cultivate Self Love and Spread it To the Universe
      Need i say more?

5. This seems pretty obvious. But yea, Do more Yoga. Breathe more. Love more.

Love lots,

Princess
