Aim for Progress and not Perfection: Day 9 of 340 Day Pastry Project Challenge
They say that practice makes perfect...
but is there such a thing as "perfect-perfect"?
Hm. That's something that I don't know yet for sure given that I'm still at the "unlearning-what-I think-I-once-knew-was-right-stage and-learning-new-amazing-things-stage" as well.
Specifically with baking breads.
I mean, I've always always LOVED breads - from pandesal, Spanish bread, cheese bread, bonete...
NAME IT ALL and I've probably eaten them on days when I seriously am having a CARB ATTACK. haha. And on those days, I swear I could five large pandesal with varied filling combinations: cream cheese, peanut butter, mango jam, eggs & butter - ALL IN ONE SITTING GUYS.
I know.
NO judging guys.
;)
And I just came to a point when I was craving for some cheese bread and wanted to have a healthier version of it. Thus, I started baking breads and was introduced to its wide variety as well.
I bravely attempted to make my own cheese ensaymada before..and it was just a total, total freakiiiing beautiful nightmare.
Haha. Wanna know why? :D
Let's just say that they looked more like an overly spread cookie and dough batter.
Something in between to be fair.
I've also attempted to bake some Danish pastries as well which turned out to be..you know..
Danish, I guess. Haha.

But that didn't stop me from exploring other types of bread as well especially with my stage adventure at Shine Bakery wherein they make these super beautiful and perfectly baked brioche buns! I was so inspired that I made some the other day(though I used Julia Child's recipe that I got from the web as well which I shared here:
You can also check the video and the exact recipe that I used to make these! :D Just that I must admit that I did not completely follow the instructions the first time I made them.
Oh well, when did you follow instructions Princess?
Seriously? haha!
That's why they turned out like these!!! Haha!
PICTURE HERE
They looked more like bonete rather than brioche buns. Too packed and lacked that "light and fluffy" component that is a brioche. Nonetheless, I'm so happy my every supportive family ate it for breakfast with cream cheese and freshly cut salamiiiii. <3
TEE.
HEE.
Yummyyy yummyy indeed! :) Oh, my friends at Stockton ate them as well. Haha! <3
Still, I badly wanted to learn how to bake it right. I badly wanted to improve my "brioche bread making skills" that's why I made another batch a few days after. I knew that I had to follow the instructions this time to really see which part I had gone wrong so next time, I could work on it. But then again, due to time constraints(LOL excuses), and yes, more excuses, I wasn't able to completely follow it. Haha. Though to be fair, this time, I adhered to the instructions a bit more than I normally do. :D Which is a good thing eh!
See these cute tiny buns? :) Aren't they so adorable guys?
As you can see from above, I've decided to make three variations for these:
UGH.
BREAD.
WEAKNESS.

LES PLAIN BRIOCHE
The beauty in plain and simple brioche is its versatility.
Do you want it sweet, savoury or both? It's your call and it will always be. :D
Drizzle it with pesto, garlic or even peanut butter(haha weird?) and put it in the oven toaster for around 10 minutes!
LES CINNAMON & PESTO BRIOCHE
I'm a huge huge fan of change and all that stuff that's why you may notice they don't look like the ones that I previously shaped.
It's not rocket science. It's called, playing and experimenting in the kitchen.
*laughs
If we're going to evaluate the results of the first and the second trials, I can proudly say that there's an inch of progress. And hey, that's what I'm continuously aiming for in whatever it is that I want to achieve in life.
PROGRESS.
Up until I reach that point wherein there's nothing more to improve on, I'm going to be unstoppable. Haha.
Hope my oven keeps up with my adventures and oh, my hand mixer as well!!!
Still praying and working to get my dream Kitchen Aid mixer guys! :D I'll definitely share it with you the very moment I get to have one! :)
Now that's a wrap everyone!
Till next time,
Les Patisserie Princess <3
